The Eclectic Kitchen & Dining Room Before & After

Each of our designs are unique because we take inspiration from our clients, things that they say, and the properties themselves. So, we’re going behind the scenes to show you before photos and how our designs developed!

Before

We started planning this one before our clients moved into the property, so this furniture belonged to the previous homeowner. The items we need to incorporate were two sideboards (one mid-century), a tan leather armchair and a white range cooker. Our client wanted to add a utility room to the kitchen, so this design began with space planning. The dining room however had great bones with lots of period features, the areas in need of address here, were:

  • The flooring - the dining and kitchen are open to one another, so a single floor finish to carry the eye through the space made much more sense!

  • The door - the rest of the house still had the original four panel doors, where-as this one had been replaced with an ugly fire door. Because of the internal layout changes, a fire door was no longer required, and we were able to source an antique door in keeping with the property.

  • The fireplace - had been painted to look cast iron but had some lovely details, so we made it pop!

  • The lighting - the wiry ‘chandelier’ just wasn’t cutting it in this dark north facing room.

The Brief

'“We’d like a space that is warm and inviting. Styled, but not like a show home, so people want to sit down! We love colour and incorporating some of our old pieces of furniture with new contemporary ideas”

Dining room mood board

Pinks, charcoal and brass come together to create a sophisticated kitchen dining room packed full of character. In this north-facing space, the kitchen’s brass splashback reflects light around the room, and the pink palette brings warmth and personality. In the dining area, a deeper red tone is used above the picture rail to add richness to the scheme, and the coral-painted fireplace provides a vibrant pop of colour.
